2013 Camp Anuenue

“On Tuesday, June 4, the American Cancer Society’s Camp Anuenue dining hall in Mokuleia was once again transformed into a Casino and Carnival Fun House.  The special guests for the evening, children who are afflicted with cancer and survivors of cancer, were treated to a sit-down fine dining meal (hamburger, hot dog and pizza, of course) served by Men’s Leadership of Hawaii men and WLS women dressed as waiters in tuxedo shirts with bow-ties. Dinner was followed by the Casino Night Festivities-black-jack,roulette wheel, putt-putt golf, bean bag and basketball toss, pin-ball pachinko, etc.  Winnings from these games are then used to purchase gifts from donations, many of which came from our volunteers.  The kids left for the evening with arms filled with dolls, games, balls, beach equipment, beauty supplies, etc. and fond  memories to be cherished.  The 27 volunteers were rewarded with the knowledge that they made a difference in the lives of these kids”. -Wilbert Kajihara

“I was truly humbled and inspired by the strength and perseverance of the children.  I felt honored to be in their presence.  I really felt that we contributed to their lives and also felt that their joy and happiness filled the hearts of the volunteers as well.  It was a fun and rewarding night!!! – David Hattori”

“I learned how to hone the techniques of PSI trainings.  I learned what works and what doesn’t work.  The result from back of the house and front of the house gave me excellent feedback as well as my peers. -Steven Inouye”

“I felt that this was an excellent application of the win-win principle.  It was gratifying to see the kids excitedly enjoying themselves by first being treated to a first class type dining service then being rewarded with free gifts which they purchased from their game winnings.  For the Men’s Leadership & LS volunteers, it was the good satisfying feeling of making this a very special fun-filled and memorable evening for these very deserving brave kids”.-Wilbert Kajihara
