2013 Kalihi Valley project

On June 29th and 30th members of Men’s Leadership of Hawaii and the community got together to build a roof in Kalihi Valley. This structure has been loved by many many people over the course of the last few years and this weekend was no different. We removed half of the roof and and extended the roof to cover the big beautiful deck. It was a great project. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to be stewards to this land. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this project. We are so blessed to have each other.

“This was a special project. It was very spiritual to be on that land. Everything about the weekend was very special. I especially appreciated starting each day with the Aloha circle where we announced who we were and who we were bringing to this land. I learned a lot from Casey and Puni just from those brief 15 minute discussions about Hawaiian culture and way of living.

I certainly was not comfortable climbing up the rafters and purlins. I really appreciated men like Arron Min taking the time to explain how things should be done and trusting me to do them. I appreciated the opportunity for me to grow and work on ‘my project” throughout the weekend. I got lots of feedback. I left each day tired and yet very centered. I left each day knowing that I gave more than I used to. I left each day knowing that I was making a difference.

I look forward to the next one. Thank you to everyone that supported this project.: — Aaron Kagawa

This project used 520 man hours to complete.
